The higher you go, the fewer people tell you the truth. Protect the ones who still will.

Honesty gets more expensive for other people as your position improves. Once you can affect somebody’s grade, their playing time or their job, disagreeing with you carries a cost, so most of them stop. It happens gradually and feels pleasant, which is precisely the danger. You end up with less accurate information exactly when your decisions start mattering more.
Work out who still tells you inconvenient things and treat that as valuable. Never punish it, including in small ways like going quiet afterward. Ask them directly what you are getting wrong, then actually listen.
What have you done lately to make honesty safe around you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
