Don’t climb just to get people serving you. Climb so you can serve more of them.

There are two reasons to want more room, and they look identical from the outside. One wants the position because of what it collects. The other wants it because of what it can move. Only one of them still feels worth it once you arrive, because attention runs out fast and usefulness does not.

Ask what you would do with a little more say than you have now. If the honest answer is mostly about being treated differently, sit with that for a minute. It does not make you a bad person, it just tends not to hold up.
