A title can be taken away in one meeting. A skill walks out the door with you.

Positions are lent to you by whoever is in charge, and lending can end for reasons that have nothing to do with you. What you can actually do is not on loan. It moves when you move, and it keeps working in rooms where nobody has heard of you. That is the difference between something you hold and something you are.

If your role vanished tomorrow, what could you still do that somebody would want? Answer that honestly, then spend some of this year making the answer longer.
