A setback becomes dangerous when pride prevents adaptation.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The setback itself is usually survivable. What makes it dangerous is refusing to change course because changing would mean admitting the original approach was wrong. Pride turns a temporary problem into a permanent one by blocking the only available exit.

Ask whether you are holding a position because it is still right or because abandoning it would be embarrassing. If it is the second, that is worth more than the embarrassment. Adaptation is not an admission of anything except attention.
