Freedom and consequences come in the same box. You can’t leave one of them at the store.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The ability to choose and the duty to live with the choice are one thing seen from two ends. Any arrangement that gives you one without the other is not freedom, it is supervision with a nicer name. That is why more independence always feels heavier than expected. Wanting the choosing without the carrying is a wish rather than an option.

When you ask for more room, decide in advance what you will do when something you picked goes wrong. Having that answer ready is most of what makes the room stick. It also makes the next ask easier to grant.
