Maintenance is boring. Repairs are expensive. Pick which one you’d rather pay for.

Nothing about upkeep is satisfying, because when it works, nothing happens. That is its entire nature and the reason it keeps getting skipped: there is no visible reward for the oil change, the backup, the check in with a friend you have not spoken to. The bill for skipping arrives later in a much less convenient form.

Choose one thing you are quietly not maintaining and give it twenty minutes this week. Your bike, your files, your teeth, a friendship. Boring now is almost always cheaper than urgent later.
