When you don’t know what to say, just show up. Being there says it for you.

Presence works where words do not. In the situations where nothing is fixable, people are not waiting for the right sentence, they are noticing who is in the room and who found a reason not to be. Sitting there with nothing to offer communicates something a message cannot, which is that you were willing to be uncomfortable for them.
Go, even unprepared. Bring food, or bring nothing. Saying that you do not know what to say is honest and lands better than anything you would have assembled on the way over.
Whose hard week could you sit through without saying much?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
