Good conversation is a rally, not a serve. Hit it back and give the other person a shot.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some people treat talking as a series of turns to deliver something, waiting out the other person rather than listening. A rally works differently, because the aim is to keep it going, which means hitting back something the other person can actually return. Questions do that. Monologues end the point.

In your next conversation, make sure every second thing you say gives them something to pick up. Ending on a question is the simplest version and it almost never fails.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do your conversations go back and forth, or mostly outward?
