Delete button or not, the internet has a memory, and so do the people who saw it.

Deleting removes the post and not the record. Someone screenshotted it, a site archived it, and more importantly people who read it are still carrying whatever they concluded about you. That is not a reason to live in fear of every joke. It is a reason to treat send as the decision point rather than delete.

Pause at the moment before posting rather than relying on cleanup later. If you would need to delete it in a week, you already have your answer.
