Doing it differently from how your family always did it doesn’t mean you love them less.

RESILIENCE
Choosing a different way than your family always has can feel like a verdict on them, and it usually is not one. People build their patterns out of the options they were given, and having more options does not make the earlier version wrong or mean you think less of anybody. Love and imitation are separate things, even though they get filed together.
Where you can, say it plainly and warmly before it turns into a fight. Keep the parts you actually want to keep. Expect friction at first, and expect most of it to settle once it stops being new.
