Saying “I’m frustrated” out loud is braver than slamming a door and letting the door talk.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Naming what you feel gives the other person something they can respond to. A slammed door, a silence or a two-word reply announces that something is wrong without saying what, so they are left guessing, and guessing usually makes it worse. Saying the plain word is harder because it puts you out in the open.
Try the short version next time. Say you are frustrated, and say what about, with no history and no list attached. It feels exposed for a few seconds and settles things far faster than the door ever did.
When did you let a slammed door speak for you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
