The magic usually isn’t in the first draft. It’s in the fourth, when you finally know what you’re making.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Early drafts are mostly you discovering what the thing is, which is why they feel vague even when the sentences are fine. You cannot make something good before you know what it is, and you rarely know until you have built a version of it. That is the part nobody warns you about. The later passes feel slower and are where the actual quality appears.

Stop judging a first attempt as a final one. Plan for more passes from the start and put them in your schedule. When a fourth version feels like failure, remember it is the first one where you knew what you were building.
