People follow the ones who can describe something that doesn’t exist yet like they’ve already seen it.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

People commit to things they can picture. A vague pitch asks everyone to do the imagining themselves, and most will not bother, so the idea dies of blurriness rather than of being wrong. Describing something in concrete detail, as though you have already seen it finished, does that work for them. It is a skill you can practice, and it is mostly about specifics.

Write the finished version before you build it. What it looks like, who is using it, what a Tuesday with it in the world feels like. Read it to one person and watch where their attention drifts, because that is the part still missing.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Can you describe your unbuilt idea so clearly others see it?
