Let yourself stare out the train window. Daydreams are just drafts nobody has written down yet.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Unfocused time is where loose material gets connected, and it only happens when nothing is demanding your attention. Every gap now has something to fill it, so the staring-out-the-window state has quietly vanished from most days. That state is not laziness, it is the part of thinking that cannot be scheduled. What surfaces there is often the beginning of something you had not consciously been working on.

Leave one journey a week without headphones or a screen. Look out of the window and let your mind wander badly. Keep a note open for whatever arrives near the end, since that is usually when the useful part shows up.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you last let your mind wander with nothing playing?
