Fans will ask for the old stuff forever. Grow anyway. The right ones will grow with you.

People attach to the version of you they met first, and they will keep asking for it long after you have moved on. That is not malice, it is just how attachment works. Repeating something you have outgrown slowly turns your work into a service, though, and the people who actually care are usually more interested in where you are heading than in hearing the same thing again.

When you change direction, say so plainly instead of apologizing for it. Expect some drift. Make the new thing well enough that the ones who stay are glad they did.
