Give the feedback you’d want: specific, honest, and about the work, not the person.

Useful feedback is specific, honest and aimed at the work. Vague praise gives somebody nothing to act on, and criticism aimed at the person only makes them defensive, which shuts the door you were trying to walk through. Telling someone what confused you two minutes in is worth far more than telling them whether you liked it.
Next time someone shows you something, name one part that worked and why, then one part that lost you and exactly where. Skip the overall verdict. Ask first what kind of feedback they were hoping for.
When did you last give someone specific and kind feedback?
