With nobody checking, the only reason left to do the job properly is your own. That week shows whether you have been working for a person or to a standard, and the answer usually surprises people, because most of us assume we are the second kind until the supervision disappears. Whatever you do then is the real setting, and it always was.

When the oversight goes, take the task you would normally let slide and do it anyway. Not to impress anybody on their return. Just to find out what you are like with no audience at all.
