You don’t need a vote to do the right thing. You’re allowed to be the only one.

Doing the right thing is not a group decision, and waiting for company usually means waiting forever. Most rooms are full of people privately hoping somebody else goes first. Being the only one feels exposed for about a minute, and that minute is usually the whole price.

Think of the moment this week where you knew and stayed quiet. Decide now what you will say if it comes round again, even something as plain as, I am not doing that. One sentence is enough to be the only one.
