Never confuse access to you with ownership of you.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Letting someone into your life is not a transfer of authority over it. People sometimes treat proximity as entitlement, assuming that closeness means a say in your decisions, your time, and your choices about your own life. Access is something you grant and can adjust. It never converts into ownership, no matter how long it has been in place.

Where you feel obliged to justify a personal decision to someone simply because they are close to you, notice the assumption underneath. Being loved does not require being managed. You can be entirely open with someone and still be the one who decides.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who has access to you that they have started treating as ownership?
