Following Jesus in public is easy until it costs you a lunch table.

Public faith stays cheap until it has a price. Saying you believe something is easy in a room that agrees, and the actual test is usually smaller and more embarrassing than persecution, like being the one who does not laugh, or losing a seat you liked. Those moments arrive without warning and are over in seconds. What you do inside them is the real answer.
Decide in advance where your line sits, because there is no time to work it out in the moment. Accept that some social cost comes with it. Then notice who is still around afterward, since that is worth knowing.
What has following Jesus actually cost you socially this year?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
