Your rough year turned you into the friend who shows up with the right words. Count that as a win.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Certain things cannot be learned secondhand. Knowing what to say to someone in the middle of something bad usually comes from having been there, which is a brutal way to acquire a skill and not one anybody would choose. Still, the skill is real, and it is yours. You are useful to people now in a way you were not before.

You do not have to be glad the year happened to be glad about what you can do. If someone near you is in it right now, you already know what helped and what did not. Offer that quietly, without turning it into your story.
