A dog at the door has no reserve, no coolness and nothing held back for later. Whatever is happening gets the entire animal. People lose that early, mostly out of self-consciousness, and start metering their enthusiasm so as not to look like they care too much. The result is a lot of half-attended good things.

Pick one thing this week and be embarrassingly into it: greet a friend like you are actually pleased to see them, cheer properly, say you loved something instead of saying it was decent. Being cool is a low ceiling and almost nobody remembers who had it.
