Showing up to your friend’s game or recital says more than the post you’ll make about it.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being physically present is expensive in the only currency that counts, which is time. A post costs thirty seconds and is partly about you. Sitting in a hall for two hours watching something you have no personal stake in costs an evening, and your friend can see you from the stage, which no amount of posting achieves.

Go to the next one. Sit near the front where you can be seen, stay to the end, and say something specific about their part afterwards. If you genuinely cannot make it, say so before rather than apologising after. There is no substitute for turning up.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose event could you actually attend instead of just congratulating?
