Be a tourist in your own city for a day. You’ve been walking past the good stuff for years.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Familiarity switches off looking. Your route to work or school has been reduced by your brain to a set of turns, and everything on it has gone grey, including things people travel a long way to see. Nothing about the place got worse; your attention simply stopped allocating anything to it years ago.

Take a day and do it properly: look up what visitors go to, and go. Take a different street home. Photograph something on your own road as though you had just arrived. It is the cheapest holiday available and it usually ends with you slightly more attached to where you live.
