Lungs burning on the last lap means your body still shows up when you call it.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Burning at the end of hard effort is not a malfunction. It is your body doing what it is built to do, on demand, because you asked it to. Bodies do not owe anybody a performance, and they vary wildly in what they can give on a given day. On the days yours answers the call, that is worth a second of respect even while it feels terrible.
After the next thing that leaves you wrecked, stand still for a moment before you complain. Notice your breathing coming back down. Then thank whatever you have got, at whatever level it worked today.
When did your body last do something you asked of it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
