The hardest part of anything happens privately, in the moment when continuing seemed unreasonable and nobody would have blamed you for stopping. That decision has no witnesses and never makes it into the story anyone tells about you. It is also the decision the whole thing rests on. Whatever came afterward was made possible by a version of you nobody congratulated.

Think of a specific night when you nearly let something go and did not. Give that version credit out loud, even if it feels odd. Then notice where you are in that position right now, and treat today as one of those nights.
