Switching personalities for every friend group means you’re not hanging out. You’re touring.

Adjusting your volume between rooms is normal and everyone does it. What this points at is the further version, where your opinions and humour and values shift with the audience until nothing underneath stays the same. That gets exhausting, because a tour has no days off. It also means nobody has actually met you yet.

Find one thing you believe in every room and say it in the room where it is least popular. Once, small, no speech attached. Notice which friendships survive that, because those are the ones you can rest in.
