Saying no to your own crew is harder than saying no to strangers. It’s also where leadership actually gets tested.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Refusing strangers costs nothing and refusing your own people costs something you care about, which is why the pressure is so much heavier there. That is exactly why it is the real test: anyone can hold a line with people they do not need. Holding it with friends means being willing to be temporarily unpopular with the only people whose opinion actually lands.

If your group is pushing you toward something you have already decided against, say no plainly and stay in the room. Do not soften it into a maybe. A clear no from someone who is not going anywhere is survivable for everybody.
