Being the calm voice in the group chat during a crisis is leadership in lowercase letters.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Panic is contagious and so is steadiness, and in a fast thread whoever types calmly sets the temperature for everyone else. Nobody appoints that person. They are simply the one asking what we actually know so far instead of adding another guess. It rarely gets credited afterward, and it changes how the whole thing goes.
Next time something goes sideways in a chat, wait before you send. Ask one clarifying question rather than reacting. A short message with a fact in it does more than twenty with feelings in them, and nobody has to know it was deliberate.
The last time your friends panicked, what did you type?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
