Somewhere a younger kid is watching how you handle losing. That’s your real highlight reel.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Losing in front of people is a more revealing performance than winning. Somebody younger is watching what you do in the ten minutes after it goes wrong, and that is the part they will copy when it happens to them, because nobody ever teaches it directly. Winning well is easy and tells them almost nothing.
After the next loss, shake hands, say something decent about the other side, and keep the officials out of it. You can be gutted and still do that. The kid watching takes in both halves.
How did you act the last time you lost badly?
