Sweep the floor like somebody important is going to walk on it. Somebody will.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
How you handle work nobody will inspect is the real setting on your standards. A floor, a folded stack of shirts, the closing checklist at a shift: none of it is interesting, and all of it teaches your hands what normal means. The second half of the idea matters just as much. Whoever walks through next is important to somebody, even if they are nobody official.
Take the most pointless job in your week and do it properly one time, all the way to the edges. Notice whether you feel worse afterwards or slightly better. That answer is worth more than a rule someone hands you.
Which task do you half-finish because nobody important is looking?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
