The danger of getting good at something is forgetting why you loved it when you were bad.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
When you are bad at something there is nothing to protect. You play, you mess about, you get better by accident. Skill brings an audience, a ranking and an expectation, and slowly the reason you started gets buried under the job of performing. Plenty of people quit the thing they loved most, not because they got worse, but because it stopped being allowed to be fun.
Spend one session this week doing it badly on purpose. Play the easy song, shoot from stupid distances, write something nobody will read. You are not wasting a practice, you are checking that the original reason is still in there.
Why did you love this before you got good at it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
