Admitting a gap is the fastest way to close it. Saying you are lost gets you the explanation; nodding along gets you a second lesson built on a first one you missed. Most people stay quiet because they assume everyone else understood, which is almost never true. Three plain words cost a second of discomfort and buy the actual answer.
In the next class or shift where you are behind, be the one who asks. You do not need a clever version of the question, just the plain one. Notice how many people exhale when you do.
When did admitting ignorance get you a better answer?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
