Envy is a magnifying glass pointed at someone else’s lawn.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Envy works by narrowing what you look at. It takes one part of someone else’s life, the part they showed you, and enlarges it until it fills the frame, while your own life stays at normal size with all its ordinary mess visible. Nothing is being measured fairly there. You are holding their best inch against your whole yard.

When you feel it, name the specific thing you want rather than the person you resent. Usually it turns out to be a skill, or a bit of freedom, or being picked. That version you can go after, and it stops being about them.
