School teaches you the answers. Life hands you the test first and the lesson after.

One system gives you the material first and checks afterwards. The other hands you the situation with no warning, no syllabus and no study period, and the understanding only turns up once it is too late to use. That is disorienting if you were trained by the first system. It is not a sign you are behind.

Since the lesson tends to arrive late, make a habit of collecting it: a short note after anything that went badly, saying what you now know. You will be wrong about some of them. The point is to be carrying the lesson before the next test rather than after it.
