Teaching someone your trick doesn’t cost you the trick. It usually makes you better at it.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowledge is not a fixed quantity that gets divided when shared. Explaining how you do something forces you to find the actual steps, including the ones your hands were doing without telling you, and that alone usually improves the trick. You also end up with someone who now practices with you. The only thing you lose is being the only person who can do it.

Teach one specific thing this week to whoever is a step behind you. Keep it small, a single technique rather than everything you know. Notice how much clearer the thing becomes in your own head the moment you have to say it out loud.
