Rumors are like fires. They go out on their own when nobody keeps adding fuel.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A story about somebody only stays alive as long as people keep retelling it, and every reaction counts as retelling. The denial, the screenshot, the long message setting it straight: all of it is oxygen, and none of it started because of you. Fires without fuel get boring, and boring is what kills them.

Give it a week of nothing from you and watch how fast the room moves on. If it does not move on, or it turns cruel, telling somebody who can actually do something is not adding fuel. That is a different move entirely, and you are allowed to make it.
