Put a label on it after week one and you’re naming something you haven’t met yet.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Naming something fixes expectations before there is any information to base them on. Once a label is on it, the label starts steering: you both begin acting out the word rather than finding out what is actually there. A week is not enough time to have met anybody.
Let it stay undefined slightly longer than feels comfortable. Pay attention to how they treat waiters, what they do when plans change, whether they remember what you said last time. Those answers arrive slowly, and they are the ones a label was supposed to summarize.
What have you named too early to actually know?
