Become good at something worth giving.

There are two conditions here and both matter. Being good at something, which takes years, and it being worth giving, which is a judgement about value rather than difficulty. Skill in something nobody needs is a private pleasure. Skill in something people need is a contribution.

Ask of what you are currently building whether anyone would want to receive it. If the answer is unclear, the question is worth resolving before you spend another five years on it.
