Carrying people who can walk just teaches them to stop trying.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Helping somebody through a rough stretch is one thing. Permanently doing what they could learn to do is another, and it is easy to slide into, because you are good at it and it is faster when you just handle it. Over time they stop reaching for the skill, since there is no reason to. The help quietly removed the reason.
Look at what you keep doing for someone who could manage it. Step back once and let it be slow and slightly wrong, and offer to show them rather than doing it again. That feels less kind in the moment and is nearly always more useful.
Who have you been carrying that could manage on their own?
