Wanting something to exist regardless of your involvement is a useful filter. It separates the projects you care about from the ones that are really about your position in them, and it changes how you build, because things meant to outlast you get made differently.
Ask whether you would still want the thing to succeed if someone else finished it. If yes, build it so they could. If no, that is worth understanding about your own motives.
