Ending things clearly is kinder than disappearing. Wanting peace isn’t the same as ghosting.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Disappearing feels gentler because it spares you the hard sentence, but it leaves the other person writing the ending themselves, usually out of the worst available material. A clear finish hurts once. Silence hurts on a loop, because there is nothing to accept and nothing to stop checking for.
When you want out of something, say the plain version and keep it short. This is not working for me, I hope you are well, I am not going to keep discussing it. Firm and kind fit in the same breath, and then you can actually go.
Who did you fade away from instead of saying goodbye?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
