Parents update more slowly than anyone, because they hold the longest record and the most investment in the early chapters. It is rarely doubt about you. The person they are picturing is one they knew extremely well for years, so new evidence has to work against a very thick file.

Change it by repetition rather than argument. Handle something without being asked, tell them about a decision after you made it instead of requesting permission, stay level when they fuss. Proof lands slowly, and irritation only makes it land slower.
