Feedback always feels like an attack for the first ten minutes. Wait it out, then read it again.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The first reaction is physical rather than intellectual. Your body treats criticism as a threat, so heat arrives before comprehension and you read the whole thing through defensiveness. Nothing useful can be extracted in that state. The same words at hour two frequently look reasonable and sometimes even kind.

Build the delay in on purpose. Read it once, do not reply, go do something else, then come back later with a pen. Pull out the one or two specific things you could actually change and let the rest go.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which feedback would read differently if you opened it again tomorrow?
