The crowd votes loud. Your gut votes once and quietly. Learn to hear the second one.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Group opinion repeats itself, which makes it sound like more information than it is. Ten people saying the same thing is one thing said ten times. Your own read usually arrives once, early, in a sentence you barely register, and then it gets buried under everything said after it. Volume is not evidence, but it wins by default unless you deliberately go back for the quiet signal.

In the next decision made with other people, catch your first reaction and write it down before anybody speaks. Return to it at the end. If it still holds after the discussion, say it out loud.
