A library is one of the last places where being quiet with yourself is the whole point.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Almost every public space wants something from you now, a purchase, a conversation, a reason for being there. Libraries are one of the rare exceptions: you can sit for hours with no money and no explanation, surrounded by people who are also not talking to you. Alone together is a specific and underrated condition. Concentrating there is often easier than in an empty room, and nobody will ask what you are doing.

Work in one this week instead of your bedroom. Bring a single task. Notice whether quiet around other people holds you better than quiet by yourself.
