You can hold an unpopular opinion without broadcasting it. Knowing it’s yours is enough.

Holding a view and announcing it have become nearly the same act, which makes disagreement expensive and quiet holding look like cowardice. It is not. You can think something, know exactly why, decline to argue about it in a group chat, and lose nothing, because the view never depended on anyone agreeing. Certainty does not require a witness.

Next time you disagree with a room, work out whether speaking would change anything or only cost you. Both answers are legitimate. Choosing silence deliberately is a completely different thing from never having thought about it.
