Try a hobby where you’re terrible and nobody’s watching. It’s the safest place to find out what you like.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Once you are good at something, the enjoyment gets tangled with the performance, and it becomes hard to tell whether you like the activity or like being good at it. Starting from zero somewhere private removes that entirely. Nothing is expected, nothing is tracked, and whatever pleasure turns up is coming from the thing itself. Being bad at it is the feature.

Start something this term you have no talent for and no plan to show anybody. Give it six weeks before judging. Getting good is not the point, and if it happens, treat it as a side effect.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

If nobody saw you fail, what would you finally try?
