If you can’t be bored for five minutes without grabbing your phone, the phone isn’t the entertainment. It’s the escape.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
There is a difference between reaching for something because you want it and reaching because the alternative is uncomfortable, and both look identical from outside. The tell is the speed. If your hand moves before you notice the boredom, the phone is doing a job that has nothing to do with the phone, and whatever you stepped away from is the actual subject.
Try sitting through the first five minutes once and see what turns up when nothing covers it. It might be nothing. If it is something that keeps coming back, that is worth looking at when you are rested, and worth saying to someone if it is heavy.
When you grab your phone, what are you escaping from?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
