People learn that you will always cover the shift, always cave in the argument, always agree if they ask twice, and then they stop checking whether you want to. None of them are scheming. They are responding to a pattern you supplied for free, and patterns get used.

Find one place where your answer is automatic and give a different one this week. Not to be difficult, just to interrupt the assumption. Notice who adjusts easily and who gets annoyed, because that shows which relationships were built on the pattern.
